Elementary and Middle School
High School - female students
High School - male students
Regarding modesty, Timothy admonishes women “…to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly...as befits a woman making a claim to godliness” (I Timothy 2:9-10). Theses verses indicate that our responsibility is to reflect Christ and draw attention to Him rather than to ourselves. Whether we are male or female, our moderation and humility in dress—as part of our behavior—is intended to bring glory to God. Because of this, we must take great care that we do not take glory in the way that we dress. Specifically, we must make sure that our dress is not chosen with the intention of drawing attention to ourselves. Such foolishness directs attention away from God. This directive is usually aimed at teaching our young men and women to dress modestly.
This year’s dress code has been streamlined with input from students, parents, faculty and other Christian schools in order to maximize efficiency and minimize confusion. Please remember that we are an academic institution and many of our requirements are not directly connected with godliness, but are simply our guidelines for good marketplace standards. The following standards have been developed through experience and through the need to “parent” more than a hundred students at once. We appreciate your support as parents and students in obeying God by submitting to the school’s dress code. Your compliance and faithfulness allows our teachers and administration to spend less time “policing” student dress, more time on positive relational interaction, and more focus on educational and extracurricular activities.
The administration of Parkview recognizes the effect that student dress and grooming have upon student behavior and commitment to learning. It further recognizes the role of parents in assisting their children in making appropriate choices regarding clothing, accessories, and personal appearance. Students and parents are encouraged to comply cheerfully with the guidelines so that we all may move on together, not majoring on the minor things, but working together to explore all that God has planned for each of us. Attire considered disruptive, which could present a health or safety problem, is not appropriate. If a student has any doubt as to what is acceptable, he/she should bring additional clothes, or not wear the particular item of apparel in question. Students may come by the office to check their articles of clothing for acceptability with an administrator. Students will not be allowed to attend class until clothing is appropriate. Teachers may send students to the office to make arrangements for a change of clothing. If a change of clothing is not available, the student will be issued temporary “dress code” attire. Any class time missed will result in grades of “zero” for work missed.
The dress code will be followed at all times while on campus or at any Parkview Christian Academy function. According to the discretion of our school administration, if a student is deemed inappropriately dressed, parents will be notified and asked to remedy this immediately either by picking them up or bringing them appropriate clothing.
Clothing from the following stores may not be worn: Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Gilly Hicks, Victoria’s Secret.
To enhance the chapel experience, students will be required to be in Chapel Dress on specially scheduled chapel days. Chapel Dress requires more dressy attire than regular school days. Jeans of any color, shorts, and clothing with writing or emblems are not allowed. Please observe dress code and modesty when choosing Chapel Dress attire.
