Frequently Asked Questions

Many questions can be answered by reading the Handbook. Download it from the Online Forms page.

How much does it cost to attend Parkview? Our present tuition is $4,700 for K-8 and $4,900 for 9-10. Our preschool is $80/week and $100/week for All-Day Care. While the cost of educating each student at Parkview is roughly $1,000 more each year than we charge, our desire is to provide a quality education from a biblical worldview at an affordable price. Our Tuition and Fees are posted on our Web site under Admissions. Multiple student discounts apply to our K-10 program and financial assistance is available on a first-come basis to families who are able to demonstrate a need.

Is Parkview accredited? We are presently working toward our accreditation with ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). We hope to have the process completed by 2013.

Are you affiliated with a particular church? Parkview Christian Academy is an independent school whose staff, board, and student body come from a wide variety of church backgrounds. Our Statement of Faith is available on our website. Our staff is committed to teaching from a solidly biblical worldview and our desire is to see each student know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

What are the school hours? For the 2011-2012 school year, school will begin at 8:30 a.m. and dismiss at 3:00 p.m. (2:50 for Kindergarten). The preschool hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the All-Day Care is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Do you offer before/after school care? Parkview provides before- and after-school care for grades K-10. Extended Care is available from 7 a.m. until 8 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The cost of Extended Care is $5.00 per hour with a $1/minute late charge for any pickup after 6 p.m.

What is your dress code? Parkview has a dress code for our K-11th students and principles of modest dress for preschool and high school. Our complete Dress Code is available on our Web site under Admissions.

How many classes per grade do you offer? At this time we have no more than one class per grade. Some grades may be combined, depending on enrollment and class size. A second kindergarten class will be added in the fall of the 2011-2012 school year.

What is the typical class size? The average class size is 10 or fewer students.

Are your teachers licensed to teach in Illinois? While private schools are not required to have their teachers licensed with the State of Illinois, we are working toward being fully accredited through ACSI (Association Christian Schools International). We encourage teachers to pursue state licensing and our goal is to eventually have all our teachers certified by 2013.

What sports program do you offer? The 2010-2011 school year has brought a revival in Parkview sports. The boys' basketball program will again be headed by the legendary Mr. Don Davidson, whose record coaching at Aurora Christian was 549-304. Mr. Davidson led the Eagles to 10 regional titles, 5 sectional titles and 2 state appearances over a span of 30 years. We are honored to have Mr. Davidson heading up our boys basketball team and serving as our Athletic Director. Coordinating the girls' basketball and volleyball teams is Mrs. Kayla Linden, two-time All-American basketball player out of St. Francis in Joliet. Mrs. Linden has brought a passion to our Parkview sports program this year. We also offer a nine-week after-school Intramurals Sports Program in the fall and again in the spring for grades 2-5. In addition, all students participate in P.E. class on a weekly basis.

What Fine Arts programs do you offer? Students in all grades participate in Music and Art. Drama will be available as an elective to grades 5-11. Worship Team is another elective for middle school and high school students. The school will be performing its third full-length school play in the spring of the year. This year’s play is an original comedy called, An Eyewitness Account. Please see our Fine Arts page for more information.

Are there ways for parents to get involved at Parkview? We welcome and encourage parental involvement. In fact, parents are required to volunteer the equivalent of four hours per month. Each family is required to donate 35 hours per school year (20 hours for a single parent family). Hours will be counted when you help with lunchroom supervision, chaperone field trips, serve on a committee, help as a classroom parent, supervise an event, and a number of other opportunities, some of which can be done at home. FLOCK (Parkview’s parent group) tracks the number of hours each family donates. For parents who do not fulfill the 35 hours, an additional fee will be added to the school bill at the end of the year, prorated up to $200.

Are there class trips? The 2011-2012 school year will find our 7th and 8th grades going on a missions trip.

What grades are available at Parkview? Parkview presently offers a Pre-K through 11th grade program. The high school, now in its third year, is adding a grade each year through 12th grade. Our enrollment jumped from two to 13 full-time students in a year’s time. In addition, we have 11 homeschooled students who take some classes at the school.

The 2009-2010 school year also saw the beginning of Parkview’s Preschool/All-Day Care program, which quickly grew to 60 kids before Christmas. Serving three- and four-year-olds, we began the 2010-2011 school year with 73 students and a waiting list for next year.

What makes Parkview Christian Academy distinct? We see Parkview as a community of like-minded people moving toward the same goal: Providing a quality Christian education in a safe and loving environment. We want our kids to understand that God has a purpose for their lives. Our small classes mean that teachers know their students and nobody slips through the cracks. We set high academic standards as we teach from a biblical worldview. We want our students to know that they are loved and to find their purpose in life—to see what legacy God would have them leave.

In our high school program, our distinction is that we are offering a program that features strong academics, leadership training, and personalized study programs. Our academic plan anticipates that the students will be preparing for college, but allows for accommodations for those who struggle or have special needs. Our small class sizes provide excellent opportunities for encouraging students' strengths and allowing our teachers to develop them into future leaders. Our non-traditional approach to high school allows us to personalize study programs for students. This means that homeschoolers are able to take classes (such as math, science, and literature) while only coming to the school twice a week; students playing on travelling sports teams can tailor-make a program that involves the public school and Parkview; and all our students can enroll in dual credit classes that allow them to earn college credits through accredited universities.
