What are the school hours?

School for Kindergarten through High School begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:00. For Middle School and High School students, the bus departs for our South Campus at 8:00 and returns to the Main Campus by 3:30.

Do you offer before/after school care?
Extended Care is available for Kindergarten on up and is billed at the rate of $5.00 per hour. This includes any part of an hour. Before-School Care is available from 7-8 am; After-School Care is available from 3-6 p.m. There will be a late charge of $1/minute for every minute a child is picked up after 6:00 pm.

How much is tuition?
For K-8, our annual tuition is $4,700. The Activity Fee for grades 1-8 is $225 and $150 for Kindergarten. Our High School tuition is $4,900 with a $300 Activity Fee. The tuition and fees for our Preschool and All-Day Care program are as follows:

Tuition All-Day Care (preschool included)  $100/week
Preschool only $80/week
Fee Application (one-time fee per student)   $25
Registration $100
Curriculum $150

These fees do not fully cover the cost of each child’s education so we look for outside funding to make up the difference.

Do you offer financial assistance?
Our financial assistance is available for students in Kindergarten through High School. All requests for financial assistance must be submitted by June 1 for that school year. This year, Parkview was able to help families with over $50,000 in financial assistance! Multiple student discounts are also given ($500 off tuition for the second child, $1,000 off for the third child, $1,500 off for the fourth child).

When is tuition due?
Early payment can be made by June 1 to receive a $100 discount. We also allow payment by semester, which includes a finance charge of $40 per semester. To apply for scholarships or set up payment by monthly withdrawal, contact the office and inquire about FACTS, our tuition management system. Otherwise all tuition and fees are due in full by August 1.

Is Parkview affiliated with a church?
Parkview Christian Academy is an independent Christian school. Our Statement of Faith is evangelical in nature and available on our Website. There are 20 different churches represented by our Board and staff.

What grades does Parkview include?
In 2009, Parkview’s K-8 program expanded in two directions: We added a Preschool program and began the first year of a high school. The Preschool program includes 3s (the student must be three by September 1) and Pre-K (four by September 1) and our High School program will go through 12th grade starting in 2012.

What makes Parkview Christian Academy distinct?
We see Parkview as a community of like-minded people moving toward the same goal: Providing a quality Christian education in a safe and loving environment. We want our kids to understand that God has a purpose for their lives. Our small classes mean that teachers know their students and nobody slips through the cracks. We set high academic standards as we teach from a biblical worldview. We want our students to know that they are loved and to find their purpose in life—to see what legacy God would have them leave.

What curriculum do you use?
From Preschool to High School, all of our teaching is done from a biblical worldview. We see Christ as the center of all knowledge and wisdom and this is our foundation for education. Our Preschool curriculum is exclusively from ABeka Publishers. We cannot find anything that compares to this phonics-based approach to pre-reading. Many of our Pre-K students are already reading words by the time they enter Kindergarten.

Our elementary program begins to incorporate curricula from different publishers. The primary publishers from which we draw are ABeka, Bob Jones, and ACSI.

Does your school require the kids to wear a uniform?
Parkview does not have a school uniform. There is a dress code for K-8 students and a “Modesty Policy” for our High School students. The “Dress Code” is found in our Handbook, which is posted on our Website.

How many classes per grade do you offer and what is the typical class size?
Our Preschool program offers one class of 3s and three classes of 4s (or Pre-K). The primary growth of Parkview is taking place from the bottom up. With a vibrant Preschool program feeding into our Elementary grades, we needed to start a second kindergarten class in 2011, and anticipate adding lower grade classrooms as those students move up in years.

The Elementary grades (K-6) have an average class size of 14. There are 18 students in Middle School and another 19 full-time High School students. Four homeschoolers attend Parkview throughout the week. Our Preschool program averages just under 20 students per classroom.

What are your teachers’ qualifications?
Academic achievement is certainly an essential qualification for our teachers, yet a passion for teaching and a love for the students are clearly the most important qualities our teachers must possess. Private schools are not required to have their teachers licensed with the state of Illinois, yet we are in the process of being fully accredited through ACSI (Association Christian Schools International). Our teachers are encouraged to pursue state licensing and our goal is to eventually have all of our teachers accredited with ACSI by 2013.

What sports program do you offer?
Our Girls Basketball team began in 2008. For the 2010-2011 school year, we will have Boys and Girls Basketball and a Girls Volleyball team. The Boys Basketball program will be headed by the legendary Mr. Don Davidson, whose record coaching Aurora Christian was 549-304.  Mr. Davidson led the Eagles to 10 regional titles, 5 sectional titles and 2 state appearances over a span of 30 years. We are honored to have Mr. Davidson heading up our boys program. Mrs. Kayla Linden is coaching the Girls Basketball and Volleyball teams. Mrs. Linden is a two-time All-American basketball standout from St. Francis College in Joliet. Mrs. Linden also heads up our nine-week after-school Intramurals Sports program in the Fall and again in the Spring for grades 2-5. In addition to sports, all students participate in P.E. class on at least a weekly basis. Swimming is an elective offered to Middle School and High School students.

What Fine Arts program do you offer?
Students in all grades participate in Music on at least a weekly basis. Art is offered weekly for K-8 as an after-school elective for high school students. Drama and Worship Team are electives for Middle School and High School students. Grades 3-11 are able to participate in the school play. Please see our Fine Arts page for more information.

Do you offer services for kids with special needs?
We work to accommodate the needs of our students as much as we possibly can. Depending on the severity of the special need, we may be able to work with the parents and student to find an acceptable answer that does not compromise the integrity of his or her class, yet allows the student an opportunity to succeed. We have an early intervention program in place for our Kindergarten class called Search and Teach.

Are there ways for parents to get involved at Parkview?
We welcome and encourage parental involvement. In fact, parents of Kindergarten through High School students are required to participate in Service Hours. Each family is required to donate 35 hours per school year (20 hours for a single parent family). Hours will be counted when you help with lunchroom supervision, chaperone field trips, serve on a committee, help as a classroom parent, supervise an event, and a number of other opportunities, some of which can be done at home. The number of hours each family donates is tracked through RenWeb, our school management system. For parents who do not fulfill the 35 hours, an additional fee will be added to the school bill at the end of the year, prorated up to $200.

Are there class trips?
Our 7th and 8th grade classes alternate each year between visiting Washington, D.C. and going on a home missions trip. The High School grades also have a class trip that incorporates ministry opportunities for the kids.
